The Plain People

I once saw a documentary about the Amish People in Pennsylvania Dutch Country and I was really fascinated by their culture and tradition. It is amazing how this community remained "untouched" by modernization and technology. What's more amazing is that despite the lack of modern machines, they were still able to thrive. And I've heard that the Amish fireplaces which are handmade by them is one of the best in the market today.

Anyway, I checked their website (yup, they have a website! ironic, right?) awhile ago and the paragraph below made me understood why the Amish people "choose" to live in the old ways.

The Amish are very devout in their faith. They believe in the literal interpretation and application of Scripture as the Word of God. They take seriously the Biblical commands to separate themselves from the things of the world. They believe worldliness can keep them from being close to God, and can introduce influences that could be destructive to their communities and to their way of life.
